Its Chocolate Cake

I made this chocolate cake last night. I was trying out a new recipe, that does not use milk or eggs. I plan on using this recipe for my Mother's birthday cake. Her birthday is next week.

I had a lot of fun making this chocolate cake and the chocolate icing. It reminds me that I do enjoy cooking, but especially baking! The one fun part was when the wisk fell out of the sauce pan with the chocolate icing in it! I'm still cleaning up and finding chocolate icing in the kitchen.

The SU and I will be finding out tonight if its as tasty as it looks and smells! If not, then I'm not sure what I'll do for the cake.

I am almost finished with the top for the baby quilt. I just had an inspiration this morning for the border. I'll give it a shot and see if I like it.

We are enjoying the Holiday weekend. I hope you are too!

Quilt Baby H Final

So this seems to be the final layout for this quilt. Although, I leave open the option to add to it.

This was a lot of fun to do. Now I've got to come up with a border. Mmm...

Some of these fabrics had a loose weave and caused me some problems with stretch. So making sure that the stretchy fabric was on the bottom when sewing, and to liberally use starch seemed to help.

Quilt Baby H Update

I've done a few more blocks. I don't have a real plan for this quilt, except to use up some scrap fabric and to try out this new pattern.

The pattern is by Atkinson Designs. Its called Doubletime Duet.

I'm now thinking that it will be 4x4, roughly 36" square, but I'm thinking of putting on a border, or two.

I am back to quilting! I'm currently working on a baby quilt for our friend H. The quilt will be for his niece nephew who is due early next year.

I also have a baby quilt to do for my boss. I think I'll be using this pattern as well; including the colors as both babies are boys!

The batik quilt is resting a bit while I figure out how I'm going to quilt it. I've also got some other issues to work out prior to quilting. I have ideas for those as well.

More later!

Know Hope

I am still overwhelmed by the reality that America has elected its first African American President! What a huge step. Yes, I know that he is biracial, but its still a big thing!

I got all teary eyed listening to his acceptance speech on Tuesday night (early Wednesday morning). It was very moving and very true. He didn't pull punches and laid it out full. This is what I want.

I hope that everyone listens, hears, and internalizes what he had to say. We are all part of the problem, we are all part of solution.

The time to work is now! We don't have the luxury of sitting back and watching. We all have to be active participants in our society! Be responsible, be pro-active.

The President of the United States cannot do this job alone. We are in a major critical state, that requires people to be a positive and active force. To be open, honest, and practical. Gone are the days of partisanship. We have no more time for that crap!

Compromise is key. Finding solutions is key. Evolve or die.

Think. Reflect. Do. Wake Up. Know Hope.

I Voted for Barack Obama and Joe Biden

I got up at 5 AM, showered, dressed and was in the poll line at 5:45 AM! Yup, there was a line. By 6 AM when the polls opened it had more than doubled. I was finished voting and out the door by 6:30 AM.

The line was out past the building, elementary school. Definitely longer lines than in 2004! Wow!

I did get all misty-eyed when I pushed that button for Barack Obama!

Remember to go vote!

Halloween Costume

We were invited to visit our friends M and J at their home in Delaware. They also invited another couple, M and C. M and J also invited us to a Halloween party on Saturday.

The four of us (M and C; SU and myself) are not all that fond of dressing up for Halloween, but we came up with this group/individual costume. Note the black eyes and the letter P.

The BlackEyed Peas
In order: C, SU, M, and myself.

C (of M and C) ordered white sweatshirts from the Internet. I used my quilting/crafting experience to fuse the letter Ps on the fronts and names on the backs!
The BlackEyed Peas Back

Here are M, of Tales of the Sissy, and his partner, J.
Fred And Barney
I helped M make their costumes. M had bought a fleece blanket for his costume and fleece material for J's costume. We were very happy with the results, considering neither of us is a tailor! I just quilt! Straight lines for the Gay guy! (Except when I'm doing curved piecing which would come in handy for sleeves. mmm...)

M's funniest line was at the party and he was commenting on how warm he was, almost as if he was wearing a blanket! I laughed and said he was wearing a blanket!

The Halloween party was a lot of fun. My favorite costume was a group of guys that came as Deviled Eggs! (Sorry no picture.) But they had horns on their heads and wore white long-sleeved shirts with a yellow sphere on the front (that was the egg). I felt that they needed more egginess in their yolk, but otherwise it was a clever costume!

We had a lot of fun visiting and just hanging out.

UPDATE: Just to be clear, we went as "The BlackEyed Peas", a band.
